Pokemon sucks.
Like the animals aren't even creative anymore in the new versions.
And what's with the new versions anyway? It's just to get you to spend more money, buying more cards, book indexes and games. There's no actual substance to it though.
Divert your mental capabilities into memorizing something more productive, like the periodic table for instance.

The periodic table isn't productive unless you intend to go into the field of chemistry. Memorising also uses no mental capabilities, it doesn't make you think at all.
If you want to do something that does work your mind, do things like logic puzzles.
Honestly Pokemon is getting old I think, it was a good idea back in the day though, and it worked.

It's still a good thing to know.
There's plenty of uses for the periodic table. You can impress people with your knowledge or just if you were pondering what say, the atomic weight of certain compounds would be. Say you were thinking of making a separating container for gasses-
Nevermind you don't care and I'm wrong anyway so why should I even type things in as most of what I say gets shot down by the more knowledgeable personnel 'round here. Although I do deserve it for being so ignorant.
Pokemon was old when it came to the USA. Might as well milk it for all it's worth.

It true you can impress people with your knowledge about it but like screw said, it doesn't help you exercise your brain. I wouldn't say shes shooting down your ideas more so than correcting errors in what we're generally told to accept. If no one points out these mistakes they become common knowledge (even though they're wrong o.o)
General knowledge is always a good thing to have, even if its just randomly memorized facts you never know when it might come in handy.
Still thats probably enough about that topic or else we may derail this thread.
Pokemon was good for its time and when I was a kid, I liked the show than but nowadays, its not a show I would watch unless paid. Its old and should stop being milked for the last few dollars it can manage to churn out (IMO, but im just an oldie :P)

Pokemon sucks.
In your opinion. Except for the cards, though. They're complete bull.
But it's called business. They market things like Pokemon games all the way to ridicule figures labeled as "Star Wars Costumes."

Hey look they just announced the next generation! .....
Pokemon really isn't marketed to everyone anyway, it's just for whoever are the kids at the time, and people like me who love nostalgia. That being said, I don't buy games anyway. ;)

Pokemon is probably going to be around for a lot longer. It's been more then ten years and people still buy all the stuff and I personally think it will be at least ten more years. Pokemon is like all the other kids things, while some older people may think they are useless they have real applications and uses. Pokemon makes kids think about the strategies and moves and with that experience it may help them in the future with problem solving or other similar tasks. I for one learnt to read because of Pokemon. (Oh No! Now everyone who doesn't know how old I am knows! >.<) I would play it while on road trips (I moved a lot when I was young so we were on the road a lot.) and I would get my mom or dad to read it to me. One day my mom said she wouldn't read it for me anymore and that if I wanted to know what it said I had to learn to read. I then went and taught myself how to read with the bits and pieces I knew. I have been a good reader since. So my point is that while Pokemon may be just a cash cow it is doing some good for society and for some reason I doubt Pokemon is ruining your lives so I see no reason to speak against it. Would you rather have all those kids try to dress you up as a big yellow rat instead of playing their Pokemon games?

I have to agree with Yni, it's not like it's doing anything bad for society. Heck it's better than all the crap you see on music videos and stuff these days. Besides the games aren't that bad, sure it's getting old and they could come up with something new every once in a while instead of .. well just new pokemon with a copypasta storyline with new characters and setting... but still I played blue, gold and diamond, and at the end of the day there is more to pokemon than just catching random pokemon and battling them against others. They have been slowly increasing the strategy needed in pokemon e.g. the addition of 'natures', EV training, and chaining. Not to mention the vast variety of elements now and knowing what's good against what. To me it is more than just a kids game, it's also a deeply strategic game if you really get seriously into it and stuff.
Having said that, not sure I will buy any more pokemon games unless there is something really really new and spectacular about them, after a few generations you feel like you are spending money on the same game.
And yea it would have to be getting around 15 years.... MAN that makes me feel SO OLD D: .... Pokemon rage started when I was in primary school DX

I'm not sure entertainment stuffs are doing something significant useful beside being entertainment. I honestly think trying to find 'this game is useful because x' is merely a defensive move against those that object entertainments.
I'm against those who object entertainments too.
Life is not a life without you enjoying it though. I'm not quiet sure where our world goes, when everyone teach you, ask you, command you, to use all your time for collecting gold coins they call money and chase happiness that perhaps only stay beneath the grave. In this hard time when people need to work more than 8 hours per day to survive living, entertainment is tiny precious gem that keeps you sane and enjoy life.
Back to pokemon. I think I borrowed one of those gameboy and try the game a bit. Collecting stuffs are fun despite it actually monotonous. I'm actually trying to make one, but it is halted for now since I dont have time for it. One game that looks like pokemon that I still play until now is chocobo dungeon 2. Except you collect spells, items, and monster statues instead monsters.
