"Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new." - Albert Einstein !

what is the point of this quote ?

Trying something new implies doing something you have never done before.
When doing something you have never done before, it is impossible to expect to be perfect at this new activity, hence you will make a mistake

The point of the quote is really just to try to tell people to stop being afraid of doing new activities. Try something new and don't be afraid of getting something wrong, because the alternate is living a boring and life with no new experiences.

Nick, the OP is a spambot. :) I'll leave the thread up anyway, since it's one of those rare cases when it may start an interesting discussion.

I like your interpretation of the quote, but I have a slightly different take on it. I think it tells us not to be sheep, blindly following what others have done, with the hope that it will be an easy, failsafe way to success.

To me, the message is: do your own thing and don't be deterred by the prospect of failing - you'll be better off than the 'successful' follower who's never tried anything new. :)

Yea he knows I pointed it out to him :p he felt silly XD and I left it for the same reason.

I think that the quote is wrong :P No matter how many times you do the same old thing, you can still make mistakes. It's called human error =D

The meaning, I believe...

People will mess up if they try new things until they do it to where they DON'T mess up...

However...

People who don't make mistakes are the ones who never did anything to make that mistake...because you're going to make mistakes at some point...

I feel it is pointing to the fact that we are raised not to dare make mistakes. Think about it. Throughout life, you are taught do do everything correct, no? While this seems positive, is it really? Just as Einstein says, doing new things, and thusly making mistakes, is important for things (humanity, for example) to develop.

Sir Ken Robinson once talked about the very same subject back in 2006 on that year's TED event. http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/ken_robinson_says_schools_kill_creativity.html

It is a speech I think most people can benefit from listening to!

"Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new."

I think what he means by this is that you can't ever try something new and not make a mistake.
Trying new things and making mistakes is a part of life...so its going to happen. :-p

It's probably that you get so used to doing the same things, you aren't used to doing anything else.

Talking about creativity, it is not just school that have been isolating them, the socialization too. Because people that endorse creativity would act different.

I could point myself as example. Before I'm quiet success, everyone here loves to call me names, teachers recommend me to get psychologist treatments, parents frustrate, bla bla. I prevail though, and now my turn on looking down at them.

I sort of take it along with "You learn from your mistakes" and "Everyone makes mistakes" and as such understand it to mean "Trying new things helps you learn"

Good spam anyway :)
