Hi all,

I decided to try my hand at pixel art, creating a suggestion for another forum I go to. I call it, the capri-unicorn, and it's based off the zodiac sign capricorn. I'm going to do a whole zodiac series of creatures for fun ^.^ Had to redo the colouring once since I wasn't completely happy with it the first time, but I think it turned out rather well in the end (it is actually the adult stage, I'll post the other stages when I am happy with them). This is also my first ever attempt at pixel art in any form, so it's pretty dodgy, but oh well, I'll get better =]

Any constructive criticism or praise is very much welcome.

Also, if anyone else has any pixel art they want to share, they can use this thread to show it off as well =]

It is simply pixel art. I did it with Fireworks, but you can do it with programs as simple as paint.

Oh man, hand pixel art is extremely tedious, it also has me focusing my eyes too much and my eyesight isn't great these days.

Yup, the person loved it and it's now their avatar. So this morning when I logged on I had FOUR new recolour requests. I was like O.O !!!! Now I shall be very busy with 5 active requests and also doing my February zodiac creature!

I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out. Surprised I got the feathered effect going so easily. Third ever pixel art!

So you just fill it in with tiny colored dots? How long do they usually take?

Several hours. That one took me two just to draw up the line art in a position I liked and that looked right. Then had to refine it, colour it etc. Most people can't do it due to how tedious it is, they just don't have the patience. Apparently I have a knack for it though, the other forum is going crazy over my recolours, lol, and got a request to do a rainbow hummingbird from scratch too last night. Gonna be a challenge :P

Pixel art is very interesting in the fact it uses only a small amount of colours to create an incredibly illusory effect using the flaws in our visual system. What makes a good pixel artist I think, is the ability to be able to use colours in this way. Atm I'm working on a rainbow recolour of a nudibranch, and let me tell you, it ain't proving to be a simple feat by any standards =[

One of my recolours that is taking me a while to work on v.v The original sprite is not my own, but one of the creatures from the forum (a nudibranch). The recolour request was rainbow.

All of those colour bars are the all the colours I am using. As you can see, there is a lot.

As you can also see this is one of the most detailed and extensive recolours I have done, mainly due to the fact that
1. It is a rainbow request,
2. There are no clearly defining indicators to use for such a request (and I had a real problem trying to visualise this in a way that would work),
and 3. it's for a forumer that is probably the most cherished by me, and I think she deserves something special.

This is after 1 night's work, only several hours, I don't know how long probably 4 or so, maybe more. I tend to lose track of time when spriting.

Wow, really nice! :) I was wondering what you'll do with that white edge and the eye stalks in the recolor, but you've solved it pretty nicely.

The new right eyestalk blends in a bit on white and very light backgrounds, but looks great on all other - I've just tried in Fireworks.

Yep, it's beautiful. :) The colors are perfect and so is the lineart.

Hehe, glad to hear that they like the animation, it was really easy to do in Fw. Btw, I like your valentine nudibranch too. Pink power, haha! ^_^

First thing I saw, I LOVE THE COLORS!! xD Nice pose and wings, but the coloring it my favorite. Especially the over strokes of color that give the fur the puffy feeling. ^^
