New New Puppy (lol)

Hi all,

Since the last dog I got didn't work out and I had to take her back I decided to get a puppy instead XD She's a chihuahua x mini foxy and soooooo cuuuuuuute and she's so small and stumpy as well XD Nick's shoes are bigger than what she is. We decided to name her Mini (even though we joked about calling her stumpy XD)

This little gal is for keeps and she's already fitting in well with all of the family, including the four legged members. After playing all afternoon with Poppy, she's buggered and is gonna sleep well tonight I think =P What do you guys think of her XD?

Yea, she can fit under the couch, and Poppy (my parent's puppy) thinks it's great having someone smaller than her to throw around XD Although she's a cross she only has the mini foxy colouring, everything about her is soooo chihuahua. She looks like a chihuahua and is a cranky little thing with a short temper XD She is also not afraid to get into fights with doggies bigger than her (like Poppy) ^.^ Right now they are playing with the squeaky toy, coz I can hear it squeakin' XD

Having a puppy is so much fun, but on the same token it's soooo exhausting. Although she sleeps all through the night on the floor without whinging (which is really great =D), as soon as there is light, she is up and starts waddling about and whining, so I pick her up and put her on the bed with a chew. When she starts getting more restless I take her out for a wee walk (which she is already recognising that's when she goes to the toilet). Then she has brekky, and it's like 6am in the morning when my parents are up and I'm like uuugh too early. She wanted to play though, but this morning I was too tired so we went back to bed. Didn't take her long to settle down, fortunately. She loves Daniel and Nick, because they have whiskers on their face XD She's good though. Today she goes for her free vet check, which I'm about to book now XD

Missy was a great dog, but just not a dog that was well suited to me or my lifestyle. Firstly, she didn't get on with all of the family particularly the four-legged kind as she was very nervous, and due to having no social skills with other dogs didn't really know how to cope and thus stressed out. Secondly she wasn't really the type of dog I was looking for, I needed something a lot smaller. She also would have needed a lot time and patience to reteach her some house rules (she had a few bad habits, like getting on the dining table or the back of the lounge, and she also fretted when no one was home and ripped one of the screen doors), of which I had neither. Basically she was the type of dog that would have been well suited for an old person/couple who could sit around with her all day, and we didn't think it was very fair on her or us to be so incompatible. So I ended up taking her back to the shelter.

As my mother said, for me it would be better if I got a puppy so I could train it to suit me and how I live, and also I needed a dog that was much smaller and that liked lots of cuddles and that I could carry around XD A puppy is much easier to train, because like children their brains are like sponges and they learn very very fast. Mini is already, for the most part toilet trained and she is beginning to know the sit command as well, and I have had her only 2 full days. A full grown dog is already set in its ways, and it's a lot more difficult to break dogs of their bad habits than it is puppies, so Missy would have been a lot more work for me had I kept her, and due to my lifestyle I wouldn't have had that amount of time to spend breaking those habits. I am a lot happier with Mini now, than I was with Missy, she just wasn't the right dog for me, and you can't force these things =]

I agree with sandman, if you let one in a cage and the other one free that could bring problems...
let them "play" with supervision... actually the fact that the big one allows you to carry the new one on your lap means that some how its accepting the fact that its a new member on the family, just give them some time and that should work...

I have a pitbull back in my country and when he was with puppies he was always playful, the action of using the paws means just that they are looking for a small playmate... well that is i.m.o, but the thing is, when i tried to separate them acting nervous, my dog could feel that and then he would act violently towards the other dog, but if instead i just call him normally he would stop playing and then come to me.
