I HAVE FFIV NAOW! Wow,I can't wait to beat it. If you've played FFX-2, the battle system in FFIV is sorta like it.

That means the system is also similar to FF7, and probably 8. xD
Hope you enjoy FF4.

Final Fantasy 4. I take it you are playing it on the DS? Hmm... maybe I should try that some time. Maybe not. I don't like Nintendo's new products.
Final Fantasy 4 is completely epic. It epitomizes all of Final Fantasy in one game. It's one of my favorite out of the series. (along with 6 and 7)
Post us progress of your game. What part are you at?

8 is COMPLETELY different. 7 is as well. 7 has a complicated weapon / armor materia system for magic. 8 has a clumsy draw system to try and scrape together the fading magic from the planet. I believe Final Fantasy 7 is where the original, old Final Fantasy storyline ends. 8 kind of fits in but it more like a side story. Kind of like a "lost" game. (Because of time travel which makes it the most crucial conflict, being able to trump all the others conflicts, but also the most inconsequential because it never happened. So it deservingly belongs to be told in the Final Fantasy realm.) Final Fantasy 9 is right out.
Final Fantasy 4 on the other hand, happens before Final Fantasy 7 OR 8 so you know, magic is still inherent in the world's inhabitants due to the still existing crystals.
(They shatter in the next game. Then from 5 onward we see a severely draining amount of magic in this Final Fantasy world. 6, only "summons" or espers have magic and it's sucked out of them. 7, it's sucked out of the world its self. 8, the spirits of the espers have grown so weak that they must reside in a soul of a living human to exist, allowing the scant residual traces of magic in everything to be drawn out into the esper, giving it's symbiotic user powers but taking from them their essence at the same time.)
Also Final Fantasy 4 was the first Final Fantasy game on the SNES. (FF1-3 were on the NES. 3, on the NES, was never released in the USA but translations exist.)
Before 4, all the Final Fantasy games were very much based off of D&D. The first game was the most parallel to D&D. It was like D&D that went to level 99. Main differences being MP instead of memorized spells. But it sort of based the magic system off of the idea of a spellbook and spell slots. (And used white and black materia, for anyone who has played FF7 but not any of the NES ones.) In the first Final Fantasy game, it's even has Mind Flayers which are actually called "Mind Flayers." (I have a screen shot somewhere.) Throughout the next few games, new classes were added and Squaresoft drifted further away from the D&D influence.
Final Fantasy 4 seems to be the last Final Fantasy game based on D&D. In this case, the swords come to mind.
You fight incredibly tough monsters that most people won't be able to defeat because they are large and have an incredible amount of HP. You start out with a what? Like +20 something magic sword?
The highest D&D is supposed to go is like +4 or +5 at most. And a +4 sword in super powered. +6 is phenomenal. A battle with a monster of a few hundred HP in D&D would be incredibly epic for most level 8 characters. Cecil and his +20 sword, can do it in just a few rounds. XD
Not to mention the Paladin swords that can do upwards of a few hundred plus, allowing him to take on supernatrual magic creatures such as golden loongs. (And do holy damage, allowing a few extra thousand to be shaved off of undead and evil.)
Oh and you get uber stat bonuses. 99 strength? That's like a plus what in D&D? :P
What I'm saying is, Final Fantasy was based off of D&D. Take it full circle and play your next D&D campaign like it's Final Fantasy. Level 20 is only a footnote to your power.
Cool story,bro
Do you think this is funny?
