-Looks at Darwin Awards- yeeeeeeep

Ha ha Nick was telling me about this Darwin Award he saw where this couple were on an open safari, and the lady wanted to take a picture of some lions, but wanted the cubs to be closer together. So she gets out of her car and picks up a lion cub WITH the lioness there. Yeeeeaaaaaaa...... needless to say the lions ate her.... But like, how stupid can you get. True story, no matter how retarded it sounds >_>

Intelligence also plays no role in common sense D: !

Lol FireFang!
True though, common sense is turning into rare sense. Shame really.

I usually have a decent amount of 'common' sense, but there was one time, a few years ago, when I asked my Dad what that light in the sky was...

My best friend Stacey is the queen of no common sense... I could tell so many stories but one of my favourites is this one:

So, during uni she's been living on campus with other people in share rooms. Anyway, one of her friends had these Tropical Fish, and coz her friend was going away for a week or two she asked Stacey if she would look after them, in which Stacey said she would.

Anyway, after a few days she started commenting to her boyfriend about how boring these fish were, further reinforcing for Stacey that fish are the most boring pets in the world. So one day when her boyfriend was there she said 'come on I'll show you how boring these fish are when I feed them'. So they go in and her boyfriend starts laughing, and Stacey didn't understand why.... until he told her that half of them were bottom up and floating. Yea... Stacey didn't realise that some of the fish were dead.... then the toxins from the dead fish killed the rest of the living fish anyway.... lol yep, I could tell so many more stories about Stacey during highschool as well, but there are so many....

Lol! I would find that boring to! xD Do you know if they died from over or under feeding? Or if it was natural causes?

I have no idea, but it's hilarious that she didn't realise.

Yeah, I might have my occasional off-days, but even I'd realise that a fish was dead.

Bah, common sense. Once you move outside your comfort zone, you'll find that your 'common sense' doesn't apply as commonly as you'd have thought. Different cultures, different worlds, different knowledge taken for granted.

Einstein got it right: "Common sense is the collection of prejudices acquired by age eighteen." :-p

So in different cultures keeping dead fish floating around thinking they are alive is a good thing o.o?

LOL! :-)

Here in Thailand I once found a huge dragonfly hanging onto some grass. I slowly sneaked close to it, to take some pics. It didn't move at all, so I moved even closer, stick the lens impossibly close. Only then I found out that it was dead: stiffened motionless right on that blade of grass.

I'm sure that any ten-year-old local could've told me this, and would've laughed that I lacked 'common sense'. ;)

It doesn't compare to bottom up floating fish :p It must've been because they didn't have crosses on their eyes :p

...and the little spirit that flies out of the body, like smoke. :p

Hmm, have you heard of the bottom-up floating jellyfish that's actually alive and it's their natural position? Yep, against all sense that's common! O_O Hehe.

Jellyfish =/= fish fish XD

But I have not heard about that. I don't know much about jellyfish, only that Australia has the deadliest one in the world, and it's less than the size of an average human thumb!

Wow, I didn't know they were that small, I thought they were about the size of a man's hand.

I've seen huge jellyfish. If you lay their top part onthe ground it would be kind of bigger than a child.

Wow, I didn't know they were that small, I thought they were about the size of a man's hand.

The Irukandji (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irukandji_jellyfish) is a type of box jellyfish that inhabits the waters around the north-eastern part of Australia, and is only about 5 x 10 mm (so technically I was wrong, I knew they were small but I didn't know they were that small either until I looked it up :P), with tentacles from a few cm to a metre long. It's capable of killing a human, and its venom is more toxic than that of snakes and spiders. If you get stung by one you have about 20 minutes before you go into cardiac arrest. The dangerous thing about the Irukandji is how small they are, it's almost impossible to see them and a few people over here have been stung. It's not normally fatal though because of anti-venom though. I'm just glad they don't come south to where I am ^^

Vinegar also helps with jellyfish stings.

screwbaII

Vinegar works for most jellyfish stings except for the irukandji (that I mentioned above), box jellyfish (which is what the irukandji is a sub-species of), and portugese man'o'wars (blue-bottles, and technically it shouldn't work on them anyway since 1. they technically aren't a jellyfish and 2. their toxin is different). This is according to the Australian Venom Research Unit, so technically they probably only research jellyfish from around our waters. There are probably quite a few others out there from around the world that don't respond well to vinegar as well ^^ So don't assume it will work on all.

(Also reading on box jellyfish and irukandjis uuuugh they sound so nasty D: !)
