It says that the USA's tap water is getting worse and EPA isn't doing much against polluters.
Maybe, bottled water is cleaner!!

How ironic that the US is crying about bad water, when this is what people in poor countries live with every day. i find it funny (no offense to you people in the US) that people demand fresh clean water in the US because you get cable tv and internet. Does that mean if Africans had cable tv and internet they should be entitled to fresh clean water as well? You know this kind of makes me angry and laugh at the same time.
I have a really big problem with this.
"How can we get digital cable and Internet in our homes, but not clean water?” said Mrs. Hall-Massey, a senior accountant at one of the state’s largest banks.
Notice how they are probably filthy rich, this means they are more entitled to water than poor people. (sarcasm)
She and her husband, Charles, do not live in some remote corner of Appalachia. Charleston, the state capital, is less than 17 miles from her home.
Again, apparently living close to a rich state capital city in the US means you should be more entitled to fresh clean water than people who live in some random place in the middle of nowhere.
“How is this still happening today?” she asked.
I am not sure why this is stated. If this was about an African country, where the people struggle to survive in povety and squallad living conditions would this rich US bank accountant be asking this question? No probably not. It's only because it is HER health is at risk, and the real question she is really asking is "why is this happening to rich people??? Why is this happening to me??? This is only something that third world countries experience!!!"
Seriously, do we see this kind of thing on the news everyday when it involves poor African countries, where pretty much a whole continent just about, lives without taps and running water?
This is irony at its best.
Breaking the clean water act?? so we need laws in place to make sure we have clean water now? maybe this should be a global act or something because most of the world's population has not got access to clean fresh water. I live in Aus, we have problems with water availability and droughts all the time, I'm not sure how much that is broadcast all over the world.

Everyone deserves clean water! Dirty water doesn't just affect poor people.
This isn't about having to boil water. You can't remove lead by boiling.
Coal mines are PUMPING ILLEGAL TOXINS INTO THE GROUND! This affects EVERYONE!
EVERYTHING!

That's because the issue isn't about Africa here... It's about the United States.
It's only because it is HER health is at risk,
... Yeah.
and the real question she is really asking is "why is this happening to rich people??? Why is this happening to me??? This is only something that third world countries experience!!!"
You are the only one talking about third world countries.
Literally, you are putting words into someone else's mouth. That wasn't said at all. The last sentence was so unfair.

YES!
What-WHAT? Like... what?!

If you think it's an issue that needs attention brought to it, by all means, go RIGHT ahead and open a new topic about it.

Yes we can complain about our water being polluted... this country has endured and WILL continue to do so. Not only that, but we infought and still prevailed. We didn't EAT our own people did we? The USA developed, encouraged learning and put funding into great things like our interstate highway system, canals and rail ways.
This is the problem I have with your statement here. You rip into the United States stating that the USA does not DESERVE to be concerned about companies not following laws, making normal societal life dangerous.
That the people in the United States don't deserve to care about these issues, which are within our own country, where we live, because there are other countries that are underdeveloped.
Because the Unites States ALWAYS had pipes, running water, rail roads, space ships, civil rights, aeroplanes, the telephone and electricity. Those things were just GIVEN to the people in the United States. Just like that. Because we don't DESERVE these things.
Your argument seems rather weak, preying upon "injustices," "unfairness" and "guilt."
Also keep in mind you have to PAY for water that comes through your pipes... so there is a generic consumable standard expected. Hence the clean water act.
In fact, her entire family tries to avoid any contact with the water. Her youngest son has scabs on his arms, legs and chest where the bathwater — polluted with lead, nickel and other heavy metals — caused painful rashes. Many of his brother’s teeth were capped to replace enamel that was eaten away.
But an estimated 19.5 million Americans fall ill each year from drinking water contaminated with parasites, bacteria or viruses, according to a study published last year in the scientific journal Reviews of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology.
Tap water in parts of the Farm Belt, including cities in Illinois, Kansas, Missouri and Indiana, has contained pesticides at concentrations that some scientists have linked to birth defects and fertility problems.

I think you all are missing the point about EPA not doing its job,
and companies not taking care of their waste. :D
Screwball, if people are being poisoned by their water thats not good. True, Africa does need better water, but that doesn't mean we don't need clean water. Water is the basic form of life or something like that. :D

I just have a few things to say to pirate foxes
1. the credibility of your argument went down so much as soon as you cited about 10 wikipedia articles.
2. I did not say ANYWHERE in my argument that US did not deserve fresh clean water, nor did I say they should not be concerned about this issue.
3. My argument was in fact a satirical one comparing the US to poor African countries, and how IRONIC it is that even powerful first-world countries like the US have water problems because of how developed they are, rather tha how underdeveloped they are.
4. My argument was an equality one, the way this article was portrayed sounded more like rich people deserve water more than poor people. But that's just my opinion and how I read it.
5. I do not RIP on the US, in fact australia has similar problems. Again it is about the irony. But hey, if being compared to an African country offends you that much just say it.
6. Don't use cannabalism as an example, western view of it is too warped. There are worse cannibals in the US than there are in cultural contexts (in which most only eat those who have died, for example eating the brains of the deceased in a belief you will gain 'wisdom' and 'knowledge').
7. Funny how you mention how the US developed, didn't it support slavery when it was developing? Great, coz so did Australia! No wonder we are first-world countries, we exploited others to get where we are now. Slavery is only wrong when we don't need it anymore. So when other cultures use slavery 'oh no it's wrong and terrible and shouldn't be done.' We are hypocrites.
8. Yea, because the world will be a much better place if the US put all their money and resources into making the US a better place.
@monsterminer, my argument was more of a 'join the club' one, yea ok US has water problems, so do a lot of other countries in the world. I didn't say US doesn't deserve it, I was simply saying yea ok but you're not the only ones.

LOL you actually think that wikipedia is a credible source of information?
Keep tellin' yourself that.
If you cited wikipedia in anything remotely intellectual, you would be laughed at... good thing this is not an intellectual argument...
wikipedia is NOT a reliable source of information. So don't use it for your assignments kids ;)

The problem of wikipedia is like our bunniwiki when we let anyone edit it: it so easy for anyone to change content here and there. There is possibility that knowledge-able person spot it and change quiet fast, but still there are times where you see wrong information there and sometimes fake information could looks like right one. The best way to use wikipedia is to look at the citation links and go there to find the right information.
As for water problem, well, it easier to complains about our own needs than seeing others that need more. So I don't feel any arguments here to be valid.
I'm sorry that I will close this thread, it has gone into unhealthy argument.
